Serving in uniform: officer or other ranks
There are two broad ways to join the armed forces: as an officer, who leads and commands, or in the other ranks (soldiers, sailors and airmen), who form the backbone of the forces. Both are honourable careers. The entry routes, training and responsibilities differ.
