Where to look
- National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) for many central and some state schemes, including pre-matric and post-matric scholarships.
- State portals such as MahaDBT (Maharashtra) and Bihar's scholarship portals.
- NMMSS (selected in Class 8) continues support up to Class 12 as per rules.
- Private and CSR scholarships from foundations and companies.
Talk to an experienced counsellor. Online across India, centres in Nashik, Pune and Patna.
A month-by-month routine
Many scholarship portals open after admissions in July–October. Keep a folder (paper and digital) with all documents, check portals weekly during the season and note deadlines. Ask your school or college office about verification timelines.
Avoiding scams
Never pay money to "guarantee" a government scholarship. Apply only on official portals and never share OTPs or passwords with anyone.
Scholarships for diploma and ITI students
Students in polytechnic and ITI courses can also apply for many post-matric and state scholarships, and AICTE runs schemes for technical diploma students. Check eligibility for your course type.
Application checklist
- Aadhaar and bank account in the student's name (often linked).
- Mark sheets.
- Income, caste and domicile certificates as applicable.
- Institution verification.
- Apply before the deadline and track status.
Amounts, eligibility and deadlines change. Always check the official portal before applying.
