Admission
Usually after Class 12 with PCB. Some states and institutions use NEET or their own entrance tests; check current rules.
What nurses do
Nurses assess patients, give medicines and treatments, monitor recovery, educate patients and families, and coordinate with doctors. Specialisations include critical care, paediatrics, operation theatre, community health and mental health nursing.
Qualities needed
Compassion, patience, physical stamina, calm under pressure, attention to detail and teamwork. Our assessment's social interest and emotional quotient sections give a useful indication.
Growth path
With experience, nurses can become ward supervisors, nursing managers, educators (with M.Sc Nursing) or work abroad after clearing licensing and language requirements. Nursing is also a pathway into public health roles.
How to prepare for nursing admission
Strengthen Biology, Chemistry and English in Class 11 and 12, since many nursing entrance tests and interviews focus on these. Read about the eligibility rules of your target state or institution, including minimum marks, age and any medical fitness requirements. Visit a hospital or talk to a working nurse to understand shift work and responsibilities. If your career assessment shows strong social interest and emotional intelligence, nursing is likely to feel meaningful; if not, explore allied health roles with less direct patient care.
Careers
Hospital nursing, community health, critical care, teaching, and international nursing after licensing exams.
