The short answer
An aptitude test measures what you can do: reasoning with numbers, words, logic or shapes. A psychometric test is a broader term that includes aptitude and also measures interests, personality and behaviour. Every aptitude test is a kind of psychometric test, but not every psychometric test is only about aptitude.
Side-by-side comparison
| Aptitude test | Career psychometric test | |

| Measures | Abilities (numerical, verbal, logical, spatial) | Abilities + interests + personality + more |
| Right answers? | Yes, timed | Only in aptitude parts |
| Used for | Jobs, entrance exams, placements | Stream, course and career choice |
| Result | Score or percentile | Profile with career recommendations |
When you need an aptitude test
Aptitude tests are common in campus placements, bank and government recruitment, and some entrance exams. If your goal is to practise for these, aptitude practice books and mock tests are the right tool.
When you need a psychometric test
If your question is "what should I study" or "which career suits me", you need the wider picture. Strong aptitude in maths does not always mean you will enjoy engineering; interest and personality matter as much. A career psychometric test combines all of these.
Example: same score, different advice
Two students both score in the top 10 percent in numerical aptitude. The first has strong investigative interest and enjoys solving problems alone; engineering, data science or actuarial science may suit them. The second is enterprising and social and enjoys talking to people; finance, consulting or business management may suit them better. Aptitude alone would treat them the same. A complete psychometric profile does not.
Which should schools use?
For career guidance programmes, schools should prefer complete psychometric assessments with counselling support, because students need direction, not just a score. Aptitude practice can be added separately for competitive exams and olympiads. We run group testing and career talks for schools; see the For Schools page.
What our assessment includes
The Your Career Guide assessment includes timed aptitude sections and untimed interest, personality, learning style and emotional-intelligence sections, so you get both views in one report.
Frequently asked questions
Can I prepare for an aptitude test?
Yes, practice improves speed and accuracy. Interest and personality sections should not be prepared for.
Is aptitude more important than interest?
Both matter. Aptitude shows what you can do; interest shows what you will keep doing happily.
Do entrance exams include aptitude?
Some do, such as design, hotel management and management exams, which include reasoning sections.
Is the aptitude section difficult?
It is designed for your class level. Some questions are easy and some challenging, so the test can show your real level.
