Why the choice matters
A counsellor influences decisions that affect years of study and money. A good one brings clarity and honesty. A poor one can push you towards courses that benefit them, or give generic advice.

What a good first session feels like
You feel heard. The counsellor asks about your interests, worries and goals before giving advice, explains your report in simple words, discusses at least two or three options with pros and cons, and leaves you with a clear plan.
Comparing two counsellors
Ask both for a sample report, session length, cost and what follow-up is included. Prefer the one who explains clearly, respects your views and does not push extra products.
Questions to ask before booking
- What assessment do you use and can I see a sample report?
- How long is the session and who attends?
- Do you help during admissions?
- What does it cost in total?
